Wildcats, Colonels lose sub-region games Friday


CREEKVIEW 9, WOODLAND 7


Woodland pounded out 15 hits Friday night at home against Creekview, but the Grizzlies grabbed an early lead and held off the Wildcats late for a 9-7 sub-region win.


Creekview scored seven runs in the first three innings, but Woodland did not go away.


The Wildcats scored six runs of their own in the first four innings to only trail 7-6 after five innings.


The Grizzlies added one run in both the sixth and seventh innings to seal their win.


Jacob Frye, Grant Robinson, and Trent Harrison had three hits each for Woodland. Robinson and Harrison both finished with three RBI. Frye also drove in a run.


Mitchell Taylor and Garrett Cornett had two hits each for the Wildcats. Grayson Bagwell and Noah Ludy added one hit apiece.


Garrett Pope (1.2 IP, 6R, 3ER, 5H, 0BB) was the starter and loser on the mound for Woodland. He did not make it through the second inning. Rodolpho Romo (5.1 IP, 3R, 2ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) finished the game.


Woodland (2-12 overall, 1-10 in 7-AAAAA-A) plays Troy (OH) High School Tuesday (March 29), and Kell on Thursday. The two home games are scheduled for 5:55pm starts.


 



DALTON 8, CASS 4


Dalton finished a three-game sweep of Cass Friday night in Dalton, 8-4.


The Catamounts took a 5-0 lead after two innings and then held off the Colonels to improve to 12-2 overall and 8-1 in 7-AAAAA-A.


Cass scored two runs in the third inning to narrow the Dalton advantage to 5-2. Two hit batsmen and a walk loaded the bases for the Colonels. Boo Reed reached on an error by the shortstop scoring Bailey Campbell, then Nathan Smith drove home Jake Collum with a single to right field.


After Dalton answered with a run in the bottom of the third, Cass scored again in the top of the fourth on a pair of walks and a Dalton infield error to cut the lead to 6-3.


Dalton added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 8-3 and Reed drove in the Colonels’ final run in the seveneth with an infield hit that followed a pair of walks and a fielder’s choice.


Brock Nelson had two hits that included a homerun and five RBI to lead the Catamounts’ offense. J.P. Tighe also homered for Dalton.


Campbell, Reed (2 RBI), Smith (RBI), Casey Patterson, and Cody Johnson had one hit each for Cass.


Jake Collum (4.1 IP, 8R, 2ER, 11H, 2BB, 5K) was the Colonels’ starter on the mound and was saddled with the pitching loss. Austin Pruett (0.2 IP, 0R, 0BB, 1K) and Reed (1 IP, 0R, 3K, 0BB) recorded the final three outs.


Cass (4-10 overall, 3-6 in 7-AAAAA-A) has a three-game sub-region series with River Ridge next week. Cass plays at home Monday (March 28) and Friday (April 1). The Knights will host Cass on Wednesday (March 30). All three games are scheduled for 5:55pm starts.
