Canes win at Woodland, 4-1


The Cartersville boys soccer team broke open a tight battle in the second half to defeat host Woodland Friday night, 4-1, in a non-region match.


The Canes went up 1-0 in the 11th minute on a Cesar Abeja goal assisted by Grant Farmer.


Woodland tied the score in the 14th minute on a goal by Ewan Anderson off a corner kick from John Scifers. A senior to senior connection as the Wildcats celebrated their 2016 seniors.


Cartersville took a 2-1 lead into the locker room at the intermission when Blake Cheek scored with 24 minutes remaining in the half.


In the second half, the Canes found the net in the 63rd minute. Victor Guevarra found the back of the net following an assist from Aaron Ruiz and Farmer scored with 2:21 remaining, assisted by Edwin Betancourt, for a Cartersville 4-1 victory.


Cartersville (10-3-1) plays non-region matches at Carrollton April 12 and at Villa Rica April 15.


Woodland (0-11) host Sonoraville Tuesday, April 5 and travels to Coosa on April 12 in non-region matches.
