Canes pound Bruins


Cartersville maintained their lead in the Region 7-AAAA standings Friday with a 16-0, 3-inning pounding of Northwest Whitfield in Tunnel Hill.


Freshman Mason Barnett had two hits, drove in four runs, and picked up the pitching victory with two innings of work on the mound to help lead the Canes.


On the mound, Barnett allowed only one hit and one walk. He fanned a pair of Bruins.


Elliott Anderson pitched the third inning for Cartersville. He struck out two, allowed no hits, but walked one.


Carrington Evans (2 RBI), Spencer Dickey (2 RBI), Devin Warner (RBI), Zach Yancey (RBI), Jacob Fowler (RBI), Hunter James, and Anderson had one hit each for the Canes. J.P. Martin added one RBI.


Cameron Womac had the only hit for Northwest Whitfield. The Bruins (6-14, 4-4 in 7-AAAA) committed five errors.


Cartersville (11-8, 7-1) travels to Southeast Whitfield Monday (April 11, 5:55pm) and will host Pickens at 5:55pm Tuesday (April 12).
