Chargers split DH Saturday to take three of four vs. Andrew College


Georgia Highlands College scored five runs in the first three innings of Saturday’s second game of a doubleheader at Andrew College. The early lead put the Chargers in control, but it was an eight-run fourth inning that started a rout ending in a 17-3 conference victory for GHC.


The win also gave Georgia Highlands a third win in the four-game series played this week with the Tigers.


Brandon Etheridge had a three-hit game for GHC with a pair of walks and two RBI. Brandon Bell hit a two-run homer in the seventh and finished with two hits, five runs scored, and three RBI. Zach McCrum also had two hits and three RBI. Mitch Burger had two hits and a pair of RBI.


Nick Fink hit a solo homer in the fifth inning for GHC.


Clint Tonini (3 RBI), Devin Bilardello (RBI), Jonathan White (2 RBI), and Trenton Nutter had the other Chargers’ hits.


Starting pitcher, Casey Collins (5 IP, 2ER, 5H, 2BB, 2K), earned the pitching win. Sam Sowerbrower (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 1K) and Dalton Isley (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 0BB, 1K) worked the last two innings.


In Saturday’s opener, Andrew College salvaged their only game in the series, 6-2.


The Tigers scored twice in the first, third, and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead. GHC scored two runs in the top of the sixth.


The Chargers managed only five hits in the loss. Bilardello had two hits. White, McCrum, and Bell had the other hits for Georgia Highlands.


Bryan Quillens (4.1 IP, 6R, 4ER, 9H, 2BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss. Nick Constan (1.2 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 1K) worked in relief.


Georgia Highlands (22-18, 7-5 in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) opens their next four-game conference series at South Georgia Tuesday (Apr. 12) at 5:30pm. The series continues with a single game Friday (Apr. 15) at 6pm and a doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 16) starting at 1pm. The final three games of the series will be at LakePoint in Emerson.
