Auburn University signee, Elliott Anderson, got all the run support he needed Friday evening in Game 1 of the Cartersville Hurricanes’ opening round Class AAAA playoff series with Redan at Richard Bell Field in Atco.

Anderson reached base three times himself and Cole Jamieson hit a sixth inning, three-run homer to launch the Canes to a 12-3 victory.

Anderson and Parker Tidwell both singled in the inning. The Canes took advantage of an error, a stolen base, a wild pitch, and a balk to score three times.

Redan cut the Cartersville lead to 3-2 with single runs in the third and fourth innings, but the Canes added three more runs in the fourth.

Spencer Dickey singled and moved to third on a Jacob Fowler double. Anderson followed with a two-RBI double to centerfield. Then with two outs, Evans drove home Anderson’s courtesy runner, Seth Smith, for a 6-2 lead. The Raiders loaded the bases in the top of the fifth on a pair of singles and a walk. but managed only one run on an infield single by Justin McIntosh. That made the score 6-3 before Anderson got out of trouble with a ground ball force play at third base.

Anderson reached base again on an error by the Raiders’ centerfielder. Smith, his courtesy runner, scored on a double by Anthony Seigler for a 7-3 Canes’ lead.

Preston Welchel entered to run for Seigler at second base and scored to make the score 8-3 when Tidwell reached on a ground ball error by the Redan second baseman. Evans, who had singled prior to the error, moved to third and scored on a wild pitch for a 9-3 lead.

Jamieson followed with a three-run blast over the left field wall and the Hurricanes had blown the game wide open, 12-3.

Anderson (7 IP, 3R, 1ER, 6H, 3BB, 9K) struck out the side in the top of the seventh for the complete game win in the doubleheader opener.
