Anderson leads Canes past Thomson to open second round series

Elliott Anderson tossed a complete game and struck out 13 as Cartersville won the first game of a second round Class AAAA playoff doubleheader at Thomson Wednesday evening, 13-3.

Anderson kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh. Thomas scored all three runs in the final frame after the Hurricanes had built a 13-0 lead.

Devin Warner drove in four runs for Cartersville with a homerun and a double. Spencer Dickey also homered. Anderson helped himself at the plate in the leadoff slot. He reached base five times with a double, a single, and three walks.

Cartersville (18-11) will play for a sweep in the best-of-three series as the home team in the second game of Wednesday night’s doubleheader. If a third game is needed, first pitch would be Thursday at 5pm at Thomson.

The winner of the Cartersville-Thomson series advances to face the survivor of a series between Bainbridge and Buford.
