Cartersville 10U eliminated at GRPA state tourney

The Cartersville Recreation Department’s 10U baseball season came to an end Wednesday evening at the E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton as the Canes fell to Calhoun, 13-5, at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association 10U State Tournament.

The contest was close early and Cartersville actually held a 3-2 lead in the second frame, but Calhoun scored nine times in the third inning to take control of the game.

Luke Altizer had another strong offensive game for Cartersville with three hits and Geoffrey Gore tossed a pair of strong innings of relief to keep Cartersville in the game.

Calhoun was able to hold off the Canes, however, for an eight-run final.

With their win, Calhoun advances to another elimination game Thursday morning at 11am against Tift County.

Four unbeaten teams remain in the double-elimination including Savannah Hot Rods, Sumter County, Burke County, and Thomasville YMCA.

The tournament continues through Saturday.
