Bartow County Little League softball teams fall at Southeast Regional

After winning twice on Friday, the Bartow County Senior Little League Softball team did not fare so well Saturday at the 2016 Southeast Regional in Salisbury, NC.

Bartow, the Georgia state champions, were blitzed by Cape Coral/Ft. Myers American Little League, 18-0 in five innings.

Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an initial lead, then added three, five, and eight runs in each of the next three innings for the mercy, run-rule victory.

Bartow managed only two hits off Florida starter, Nicole Rodriguez. Hope Elrod and Morgan Deboard each had singles.

Hannah Holloway had three hits and two RBIs to lead Cape Coral/Ft. Myers American and five other Florida players had at least two RBIs each.

Bartow used three different pitchers in an effort to slow down the Florida club. Loren Harris, Sarah Moore, and Elrod each took the circle for the locals. Meanwhile, the Bartow defense struggled by committing five errors.

The victory puts Florida in the Southeast Regional championship game.

Bartow plays the Moorefield, WV vs. Washington, NC winner Sunday at noon with a chance to get back to Cape Coral/Ft. Myers American in the finals at 3pm.
