Cass opens cross country season at Mercy Invitational


The Cass cross country teams competed at the Our Lady of Mercy Invitational Saturday in Fairburn, but did not field full team scores.


St. Pius had five runners in the top ten of the girls event and all seven runners in the girls’ top 14 to win the nine-team event.


Blessed Trinity had five runners in the top ten of the boys’ race and all seven in the top 20 to win the 10-team boys race.


Stephanie Robledo placed 43rd for the Lady Colonels. Lexie Wallentine and Karsen Henry finished 66th and 67th, respectively. Derrick Smith placed 23rd for the Colonels. Nick Poteat (35th), Devon Martinez (55th), and Ryan Dupree (62nd) followed.


Next for the Cass harriers will be the Ridge Ferry Invitational in Rome on Saturday (Aug. 27).
