Lady Canes blank Sandy Creek; Woodland, Adairsville fall

Cartersville softball routed Sandy Creek at home Tuesday night, 15-0 in only three innings, in a Region 5-AAAA game.


The Lady Canes scored four runs in the first inning, six in the second inning, and five more in the bottom of the third to close out the game by mercy run-rule.


Only three of Cartersville’s runs were earned. Sandy Creek committed nine errors.


Paris Poston had two hits and scored three times for the Lady Canes. Madison McKinney plated four runs and had one hit. Jolea Prokop finished with a hit and three RBIs. Hannah Todd had a hit and two RBIs. Presley Edwards had a hit and one RBI. Tara Mathis drove in a run and Neeley Baxter had one hit.


Todd (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 5K) and Mathis (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) shared the pitching duties for the Lady Canes.


Cartersville (3-4, 1-1) hosts Chapel Hill Thursday at 5:55pm and plays in the Allatoona Buccanneer Bash Friday and Saturday.




KELL 2, WOODLAND 0


The Woodland softball team was shutout 2-0 Tuesday night at Kell.


The Longhorns scored unearned runs in the fourth and sixth innings and their pitching struck out 13 in the victory.


Sarah Baynard (7 IP, 2R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss despite an outstanding outing.


Woodland (1-4, 1-2) plays at Hiram Thursday at 5:55pm and hosts games Friday against Armuchee and Roswell starting at 6pm. The Lady Cats also host three games Saturday starting at 8:30am against Darlington, Northwest Whitfield, and South Paulding.



BREMEN 9, ADAIRSVILLE 0 Bremen pitcher Ashlinn Garner threw a perfrect game at Adairsville Tuesday as the visiting Blue Devils shutout the Lady Tigers, 9-0, in five innings.


Garner struck out five.


Bremen took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and led 5-0 after two frames.


The visitors added four more runs in the top of the fifth.


The Lady Tigers (5-6, 2-3) play Haralson County at home August 30.
