Excel edged in extra innings; rain halts Carrollton at Cass

softball

Excel Christian Academy’s pitcher, Hannah Lee, kept visiting Christian Heritage off the scoreboard for most of the night and allowed only one unearned run in the eighth inning, but ECA came up short in a 1-0 final.

Lee scattered seven hits and one walk, but the visiting Lions were able to push across a run in the tiebreaker where each inning begins with a runner placed at second base. Christian Heritage sacrificed the placed runner to third and then a groundout to shortstop by Emily Burns scored the runner from third.

Excel, who was limited to only four hits in the game, was unable to match the run in the bottom of the eighth.

Adain Coulter and Halie Poteet had two hits each to lead the Lady Lions’ offense.

Whitney Harris, Lidsey Mauldin, Taylor Gibson, and Landry McCollum had the Excel Christian base hits. Mauldin’s hit was a double. McCollum also stole two bases.

Christian Heritage improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in region play with the win.

Excel (6-7) was scheduled to travel to Brunswick this weekend for the Softball in the Sand Tournament, weather permitting. They play at Bowden next Tuesday (Sept. 6) at 4:30pm.

Cass, Carrollton washed out

Carrollton was up 3-0 in the second inning when their game at Cass was called for rain.

Cass (4-9) will host Kell next Wednesday at 5:55pm and Woodland Thursday at 5pm.
