Lady Colonels hold off Woodland; Lady Eagles top Darlington

softball

Cass scored six runs in the first two frames Thursday night hosting Woodland, then held on for a 6-4 region win.

Sarah Moore drove in one run in the first inning with a groundout and then two more in the second inning with a double to spark the Lady Colonels’ offense.

Arianna Mustin (7 IP, 4ER, 6H, 4BB, 3K) earned the complete game pitching victory in the circle for Cass. Sarah Baynard (6 IP, 5R, 4ER, 7H, 1BB, 4K) was tagged with the pitching loss for Woodland.

Sarah Fox had three hits for Cass, including a double, and drove in a run. Hope Elrod added two hits with one RBI. Sierrah Gani added one hit for the Lady Colonels.

Woodland threatened with three runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Skylar Chappell and a two-run single by Baynard. That narrowed the Cass lead to two, but that would be as close as the Lady Cats’ would get.

Chappell and Morgan Bailey led Woodland with two hits and one RBI each. Baynard drove in a pair of runs with her sixth inning hit. Bella Carnes had the other Lady Cats’ base hit.

Woodland (7-10, 3-6 in Region 7AAAAA) heads to Valdosta to play in the Lowndes Vikette Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Lady Cats are scheduled to face Calvary Day and Tift County on Friday, before playing Bacon County and host Lowndes on Saturday.

Cass (5-10, 3-5 in Region 7AAAAA) will play Gordon Lee in Cleveland, TN at Lee University Monday at 4:30pm in a non-region game and will entertain region foe, Paulding County, on Tuesday at 5:55pm
