Lady Canes fall in extra innings

Cartersville’s Hannah Todd (photo) pitched another seven inning shutout Thursday, but the Canes allowed a placed runner at second base in the international tie-breaker eighth inning to score resulting in a 1-0 loss at home to Central Carrollton.
Emily Williams, a Central Florida commit, recorded 14 strikeouts to pick up the Lady Lions’ pitching win. Todd, a North Carolina commit, struck out eight and also picked up the Lady Canes’ only hit off Williams. It was a sacrifice bunt effort in the fourth inning, but she beat out the throw for an infield hit.
Cedartown scored their placed runner from second in the top of the eighth on a two-out single into right field off the bat of Shirley Sharp.
The Lady Canes were unable to push across their placed runner in the bottom of the eighth.
Cartersville falls to 5-9 on the year and 2-5 in region games. They play in a tournament at North Cobb High School Friday and Saturday.
