Lady Canes sweep Troup; Cass drops pair at SCORE tourney; Lady Tigers edged in region matchup


CARTERSVILLE 8-12, TROUP COUNTY 2-0 The Lady Canes swept a home Region 5-AAAA doubleheader Saturday with Troup County, winning 8-2 and 12-0.


Cartersville pitcher Hannah Todd (7 IP, 2R, 1ER, 6H, 2BB, 12K) struck out a dozen in the Game 1 victory. Colbi Ballard (4 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 4K) allowed only one hit in her four inning shutout in Game 2.


Presley Edwards had a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4 in the doubleheader. She scored two runs, drove in two, and smacked a pair of doubles. Paris Poston was 4-for-6, scored five runs, and drove in a run. Lauren McElhaney finished the day 4-for-7 with a double and three RBIs. Allie Jackson was 2-for-5 and scored twice. Molly Wilson went 2-for-6, scored a run and drove in one. Ballard was 2-for-3 with a double, scored a run, and added two RBIs. Madison McKinney was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Todd (2 RBIs), Cio Seigler (RBI), and Tara Mathis (RBI) had the other Lady Canes’ hits. Hope Short and Macee Cole contributed with two runs scored each.


Cartersville (12-9, 4-5 in Region 5-AAAA) plays at Chapel Hill Tuesday at 5:55pm and will play another region doubleheader next Saturday at LaGrange beginning at 11am.




DALTON 7, CASS 2


In their early game Saturday at the SCORE International Tournament, the Lady Colonels fell to Dalton, 7-2.


Dalton did the majority of their damage in the top of the third, scoring five runs to take a 6-0 lead.


Arianna Mustin (3 IP, 6ER, 5H, 1BB, 3K) and Haley Owens (2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB) split the Cass pitching duties.


Sierrah Gani had two hits for Cass in the loss. Hope Elrod, Sarah Fox, and Sarah Moore (RBI) added one hit each.



SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 7, CASS 2


In the Lady Colonels second game of the day at the SCORE International Tournament Saturday, Cass fell to Southeast Whitfield 7-2. Sarah Moore (2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K) and Arianna Mustin (3 IP, 3R, 2ER, 5H, 2BB, 2K) split the pitching duties for Cass.


Hope Elrod and Sarah Fox (RBI) had two hits each for the Lady Colonels. Moore (RBI, double) and Taylor Queen had the other Cass hits.


Cass (5-17, 3-7 in 7-AAAAA) plays region games at Villa Rica Tuesday at 5:55pm, at East Paulding Thursday at 5:55pm, and will host Carrollton Saturday (Sept. 24) at 12:30pm.



HARALSON CO. 2, ADAIRSVILLE 1


The Lady Tigers were edged by Haralson County Thursday evening in a Region 6-AAA matchup, 2-1.


Loren Harris went the distance for Adairsville in the pitching circle and allowed only one earned run, but suffered the one-run loss. Harris scattered six hits and two walks while striking out six.


Emily Collum had two hits, including a double, and scored the Lady Tigers’ run to lead the offense. Bailey Robinson drove in Collum with one hit. Harris, Morgan DeBoard, and Breanna Wilson had the other Adairsville hits.


Adairsville (7-8, 5-6 in 6-AAA) has region games at Sonoraville Tuesday and at Calhoun Thursday.
