Former Cartersville High School head football coach, Mike Earwood, says he is retiring from coaching after 37 years.

Earwood, one of the state's career leaders in football coaching victories, arrived at Cartersville High School in 1986 and led the Purple Hurricanes to five region titles in 7-AA and a Class AA state championship in 1991.

Earwood was 216-114-1 as a high school head coach at Our Lady of Mercy (2010-2015), Starr's Mill (1998-2009), Upson-Lee (1996), and Cartersville (1986-1995).
