Woodland co-ed cheerleaders win state championship
The Woodland High School co-ed cheerleaders won the 2016 Georgia High School Association all-classification Co-Ed State Championship Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center.
Woodland, with 282 points, edged runner-up Johns Creek by two points. Grayson was third with 266 points, followed by Forsyth Central (265), Milton (257), and Mill Creek (254).
Members of coach Kathi Shedd’s team include: Grace Segars, Adisyn Garrett, Alex Hulsey, Ryanne Ritch, Katelyn Honaker, Breanna Shook, Chloe Hendrix, Jamie Landrum, Savannah Hawkins, Kristian Fisher, Andy Johnson, Noah Williams, Griffin Guyton, Rodney Thompson, Nathan Williams, and Miles Shade. Carole Payne is an assistant coach.
Woodland qualified for the state finals with a fifth place finish in the preliminary state sectionals, but had a major deduction in that performance.
In the finals, the Wildcats completed a clean performance to capture the title in a highly competitive field.
