Canes win at Troup County


The Canes basketball team topped Troup County Friday to earn a road, Region 5AAAA win.



 

CARTERSVILLE BOYS 56, TROUP COUNTY 42


After a low-scoring first quarter tied at 6 each, Cartersville took a 20-17 lead at halftime and extended that lead to 43-34 through three quarters.


Jaylon Pugh led the Canes in scoring with 18 points. Isaac Gridley contributed 12 points and T.J. Horton totaled 10. Jacorey Johns finished with seven points and Perignon Dyer scored three.


Jay Jefferson led Troup with 18 points.


The Tigers slipped to 9-15 overall and 4-8 in region play.


The Canes (17-5, 8-3) will be the 3-seed at the Region 5AAAA tournament next week and will close out their regular season Saturday at home against region rival Central-Carrollton at 6:30pm.




TRION BOYS 52, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 29


Jarrett Pierce led Trion with 11 points. Dylan Drew scored 11 for Excel.


Trion led 17-4 after one quarter, 29-10 at halftime, and 39-19 after three quarters.


Excel hosts Christian Heritage Saturday.





COAHULLA CREEK BOYS 63, ADAIRSVILLE 42


The Colts led throughout on their way to a 21-point home victory.


Coahulla Creek led at each quarter stop: 17-8, 35-20, and 47-32.


Adairsville (13-11, 7-6) plays Murray County Tuesday at 5:30pm at the Region 6AAA tournament hosted by Calhoun.





HIRAM BOYS 42, WOODLAND 27


Woodland boys basketball (1-22, 0-16) lost 42-27 at Hiram. Justice Hayes led Woodland with 11 points.
