8-run second inning powers Colonels to victory


The Cass baseball team rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday to take a 9-2 lead over visiting Gilmer. The Colonels then held on down the stretch for an 11-6 non-region win.


Clay Means went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs in the leadoff spot to lead the Cass offensive attack. Tyler Hendon also contributed heavily with a productive 2-for-4 performance that included a double and three RBIs.


Cody Johnson (RBI), Jake Collum, Nathan Smith (RBI), Gavin Young (RBI), Garrett Brookshire, and Bryson Markley each added one hit each for the Colonels.


Cass starter Austin Pruett (4 IP, 2R, 1ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) earned the pitching win. Means (2 IP, 0 ER, 3H, 1BB, 1K) worked the fifth and sixth frames in relief and Steven Spell (1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB, 2K) wrapped up the seventh inning on the mound for the Colonels.


Cass (2-0) plays at Adairsville Saturday at 1pm and will play at Sonoraville next Tuesday at 5:55pm.
