Tigers lose doubleheader at Jones County


The Adairsville Tigers baseball team was swept in a doubleheader Saturday at Jones County, 7-2 and 18-17.


In the high scoring second game loss, Adairsville out hit the Greyhounds 17 to eight, but gave up 10 runs over the last two innings to be edged by a run. The Tigers were also guilty of stranding 11 men on base.


Taylor Whitley had a 7-RBI game on three hits. Sam Seaman, who also started the game on the mound, finished with a 4-for-5 game and 5 RBIs. Corey Nation was 4-for-5 and Kyler Pelfrey was 3-for-5 for the Tigers. Garrett Mishoe had two hits and Halen Huskins added a hit.


In Adairsville's 7-2 loss, the Tigers scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning.


Jones County also scored twice in the opening frame and then added two-run innings in the third and fifth plus a single run in the fourth.


Adairsville out hit the Greyhounds seven to five, but Jones County took advantage of four walks and five Tigers’ errors to score four unearned runs.


Pelfrey and Whitley both had two hits for Adairsville. Hunter Hice (RBI), Nation, and Huskins had the other Tigers’ hits. Justin Green contributed an RBI.


Jones County improved to 4-2 with the two wins.


Adairsville (0-5) travels to Rome Wednesday for a 5:30pm start and plays at North Cobb Saturday at 1pm.
