Seven Canes' pitchers shutout Rome


Seven Cartersville pitchers combined on a two-hit, shutout as the Canes defeated Rome 7-0 at State Mutal Stadium Saturday afternoon.


Jacob Fowler, J.P. Martin, Harrison Osborn, Spencer Dickey, Jake Gooch, Levi Ayers, and Jake Norris all pitched one inning each for the Hurricanes. Martin struck out three and Ayer had a pair of strikeouts. The group allowed only two hits, one walk, and one hit batsman.


Offensively, Cartersville scored a run in the top of the first inning and one in the fifth to hold a 2-0 edge. They then broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning with five runs for a 7-0 final.



A pair of walks, a groundout, and a Martin sacrifice fly scored Cartersville’s first run. Devin Warner drove in Anthony Seigler in the fifth for a 2-0 lead.


In the seventh, Martin delivered a two-run triple and later scored on a wild pitch. Chadler Tromza followed with another triple and eventually scored on an outfield error.


Jake Gooch finished with two hits. Seigler, Warner (RBI), Noah Daniel, Martin (3 RBIs), and Tromza (RBI) had the other Cartersville hits. Brant Smith added one RBI.


Rome’s season mark slipped to 8-8 following the loss.


Cartersville (12-3, 2-0) returns to Region 5AAAA play Tuesday when the Hurricanes host Cedartown at Richard Bell Field at 5:55pm. The Canes travel to LaGrange Thursday and host Troup County Friday, both are 5:55pm starts.
