Villa Rica completes region series sweep of Colonels



A pair of Villa Rica pitchers limited the Cass bats to only two hits Friday night as the Wildcats completed a two-game region series sweep of the Colonels at home, 4-1.


Nick Corkill and Jesse Martinez combined to walk six and struck out three.


The only Cass run came in the top of the third inning to take an early 1-0 lead.


Villa Rica scored three times in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fourth.


Clay Means and Steven Spell had the only Cass base hits.


Corkill had a three-hit game at the plate for the Wildcats.


Cass starting pitcher Cody Johnson (2 IP, 3R, 1ER, 7BB, 2K) did not get through the third frame and was tagged with the loss. Evan Hinton (4 IP, 1ER, 4H, 0BB, 1K) completed the game on the mound for the Colonels.


Villa Rica improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in region play.


Cass (11-8, 4-2) travels to Carrollton Monday and hosts the Trojans Wednesday in their next Region 7AAAAA series.
