Canes secure region title with win at LaGrange


The Cartersville boys soccer team clinched the Region 5AAAA championship Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over LaGrange.


Pedro Ghanem put the Canes on the board in the 5th minute of the first half for a 1-0 advantage at the intermission.


Jair Ramos scored for Cartersville in the 50th minute and Rhett Pasley added a third counter in the 60th minute.


Pedro Robledo and Ghanem each had one assist.


LaGrange is now 9-2-3 overall and finished region play with a 4-1-1 mark.


Cartersville improved to 10-1-1 overall and is 5-0 in Region 5AAAA matches with one more region game remaining with Sandy Creek on Friday, April 14. Regardless of the outcome of that game, the Canes are the region winner.


Cartersville will host a non-region match with Creekview Thursday at 7:30pm.



LAGRANGE GIRLS 1, CARTERSVILLE 0


The Lady Grangers improved to 10-4 overall and clinched the Region 5AAAA title with a perfect 6-0 mark.


The Lady Canes slipped to 8-5 overall and finished 3-3 in region games.
