Cartersville track and field advances six on first day at 5-AAAA Championship meet


The Cartersville High School track and field team had six athletes earn spots in the Class AAAA State Sectionals Wednesday at Day 1 of the Region 5-AAAA Championship Meet.


London Shaw of the Lady Canes won the girls shot put with a throw of 36’-6.25” to lead Cartersville’s advancing athletes.


Kayla Carpenter and Vanna Beach advanced in the 1600M run. Carpenter finished third and Beach was fourth.


Asariah Hill finished third in the girls triple jump with a mark of 32’-9.5”.


Keonte Jackson took third place in the boys high jump with a mark of 6’-1”


Nick Root qualified for state sectionals in the shot put with mark of 42’-5.25”


The majority of the region running finals are set to take place Thursday. The state sectionals are schedule for April 29 at Blessed Trinity High School in Roswell.
