Chargers win 40th, open GCAA tourney April 27


The Georgia Highlands College softball team swept a doubleheader at West Georgia Technical College Friday to finish the regular season with 40 wins.


The Chargers needed extra innings to win the opener 7-6 in eight innings and took the nightcap, 8-1.


Rebecca Meade and Micayla McCoy (photo) shared work in the pitching circle. Each picked up one pitching victory and one save.


Andria Booth provided power in the Chargers' leadoff spot. He had a triple in the first game and hit her first home run in the nightcap. Madison Gianfala had five hits in the doubleheader. Briana Fickes and Shay Wooten both added four hits on the day.



The Chargers (40-12, 19-9) finished third in conference behind Georgia Military (19-9) and ABAC (20-8).


GHC will open the Region XVII Tournament Thursday at 1pm against Gordon State. The winner of that game will advance to play 2nd-seed Georgia Military Thursday at 5pm.


The winner of the Region Tournament qualifies for the NJCAA Women's World Series in St. George, UT



Region tournament bracket is included and will be held at Georgia Military College.
