Canes start state playoffs with 2-0 win

Pedro Ghanem and Pedro Robledo scored goals for Cartersville as the Hurricanes defeated White County in the opening round of the Class AAAA state soccer playoffs Wednesday evening.
Host Cartersville, 5-AAAA region champs, scored both goals in the second half. White County was the No. 4 seed from Region 7-AAAA.
Ghanem gave Cartersville a 1-0 lead in the game’s 47th minute. His header found the net off a feed from Robledo.
Robledo’s goal came off an assist by Victor Guevara for the Hurricanes' 2-0 advantage.
White County’s season ends with a 6-8-3 mark.
Cartersville (15-1-2) advances to the Round of 16 where the Canes will host the 3rd-seed from Region 1-AAAA, Shaw, next Wednesday. The Raiders (10-4) blanked Baldwin in the first round, 6-0.
