Colonels narrowly defeated in second round of playoffs

The Cass Colonels boys tennis team lost in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs Tuesday to Harris County, 3-2. The match was played on clay at Callaway Gardens.

The match was very closely contested with four of the five matches decided by narrow margins.

SINGLES

Line 1 — Avery Cornett won 6-4, 7-5

Line 2 — Dalton Jackson won 2-6, 6-3, 6-1

Line 3 — Seth Colston lost 1-6, 1-6

DOUBLES

Line 1 — Cade Foster / Reagan Barrere lost 6-7, 6-7

Line 2 — Max McCauley / Kendall Arnold lost 6-3, 6-7, 4-6

“I’m proud of our guys for the way we played,” said Cass head coach Kevin Cunningham. “We came up just short against a really good team. We had our chances.”

The Colonels completed the 2017 season with a 15-3 record. Their only losses were to Harris County and region 7-AAAAA champ Carrollton.
