GHC's Booth named GCAA Player of the Year; Nine Chargers named to All-Region team

Nine Georgia Highlands College softball players were named to the 2017 All-Region XVII Softball Team Wednesday night prior to the GCAA Championship Tournament that begins Thursday at Georgia Military College.

Andria Booth (photo below) was named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year.

Teammates Micayla McCoy, Rebecca Meade, Shayla Smith, Shay Wooten, Hannah Wills, Carlee Thurmond, Madison Gianfala, and Brianna Fickes were named to the All-Region team.

Third-seeded Georgia Highlands (42-14, 19-9) plays 6th-seeded Gordon State College to open tournament play Thursday at 1pm. The winner will play again at 5pm against the host and 2nd-seed, Georgia Military College.

Losers’ bracket games begin Friday afternoon with the tournament playing its way down to the final three teams.

The semifinal game from the losers’ bracket and the championship round will be played Saturday.

The tournament winner advances to the NJCAA College World Series at Canyons Complex in St. George, Utah.
