Oklahoma golf moves into NCAA match play


The Oklahoma Sooners, with assistant coach Jim Garren of Cartersville, move into the match play portion of the NCAA DI Men’s Golf Championship as the No. 2-seed following Monday’s final stroke play round.


The 7,300-yard par-72 Rich Harvest Farms course in Sugar Grove, Illinois played its toughest of the first four days on Monday.


Vanderbilt finished the stroke play portion of the Championship at 13-under-par, but was 5-over-par on Monday. Only Oregon, who made the match play portion of the event as the No. 5-seed, matched Vanderbilt’s fourth round team score.


Oklahoma is the No. 2-seed and was 1-under-par for the four days of stroke play. The Sooners shot 16-over-par on Monday.


Blaine Hale led OU with a tie for 11th individually (72-69-70-75). Max McGreevy tied for 16th (69-72-68-78). Grant Hirschman finished tied for 32nd (73-72-72-74). Brad Dalke tied for 51st (70-70-79-77) and Rylee Reinertson tied for 65th (74-68-74-83).


The remaining teams in match play that begins Tuesday morning are Illinois (3-seed, +2), Oklahoma State (4-seed, +3), Southern California (6-seed, +6), Baylor (7-seed, +7), and UNLV (8-seed, +7).


Braden Thornberry (Ole Miss) won the 2017 individual championship Monday by finishing 11-under-par (66-71-69-71). Mason Overstreet (Arkansas) was runner-up at 7-under-par (70-68-72-71).
