Cartersville set to host Georgia Little League Baseball 9-11-year-old state tourney


Cartersville Little League will be hosting the 2017 9-11-year-old Georgia Little League Baseball Tournament starting this weekend at Rudy York Field and Joe Frank Harris Field in Atco.


Cartersville Little League is also one of the nine teams representing district champions in the field.


The first game for Cartersville Little League (District 1) in the double-elimination tournament will be Saturday at 1:30pm on Rudy York Field against Smyrna Blue Little League from nearby District 2 in Cobb County.


Other teams in the state tournament include: Peachtree City American (District 4), Warner Robins American West (District 5), Washington-Wilkes (District 6), Hart County (District 7), Northern-Columbus (District 8), Chatham County (District 9), and Athens (District 10).

The tournament begins with four games Saturday that start at 11 am and it continues through the championship round which will begin Friday night (July 14). An “if necessary” game could possibly be played Saturday morning to determine the state champion.


The Cartersville roster includes: Turner Abernathy, Connor Brasfield, Caleb Daniel, Easton Elrod, Nick Hruby, Hayden James, Miles Owens, Trenton Payne, Charlie Rothschild, Gavin Shrewsbury, Connor Stermer, and Sawyer Wilson.


Saturday’s schedule:


11am — Rudy York Field — Peachtree City American vs. Northern Columbus

12noon — JF Harris Field — Washington-Wilkes vs. Chatham County

1:30pm — Rudy York Field — Cartersville vs. Smyrna Blue

2:30pm — JF Harris Field — Hart County vs. Warner Robins American West


Sunday’s schedule:


1pm — Rudy York Field — Athens vs. Peachtree City American/Northern Columbus winner

3:30pm — Rudy York Field — Washington-Wilkes/Chatham Co. loser vs. Peachtree City/Northern loser (loser eliminated)
