State Little League baseball, softball tournaments continue



Cartersville Little League continues to host the Georgia Little League 9-11-year-old state tournament this week at Rudy York Field and Joe Frank Harris Field in Atco with games continuing through at least Friday night.


Cartersville’s 9-11-year old team has its back to the wall after dropping its first game of the double-elimination tournament Saturday to Smyrna Blue Little League 13-3. Cartersville will look to bounce back Monday night in an elimination game against Peachtree City American Little League (1-1) of District 4 at 6pm.


Peachtree City American lost its first game of the tournament to Northern (Columbus) 11-3, but survived an elimination game Sunday afternoon by defeating Chatham County 14-1.


Two other teams — Athens and Hart County — also play an elimination game Monday night.


Four teams remain unbeaten in the 9-11-year-old state tournament and they face off in games Monday night.


Washington-Wilkes plays Smyrna Blue while Northern (Columbus) squares off with Warner Robins American West.


The tournament continues through an initial championship game Friday night. An “if needed” game in the double-elimination event would be Saturday morning.


Bartow County Little League Softball (10-12-year-olds) continues play in the Georgia Little League state softball tournament Monday night in Warner Robins.


Bartow plays District 4 representative West Point Little League in an elimination game after falling in their tournament opener to Washington-Wilkes Saturday morning. The Bartow/West Point winner will play either Washington-Wilkes or Hart County in another elimination game Tuesday night.


The Georgia Little League Softball tournament continues through Wednesday evening with an “if needed” game scheduled for Thursday night.


Bartow County’s Senior Little League team was eliminated from contention at the Georgia Senior Little League state tournament in Demorest.


Bartow suffered losses to Martinez-Evans and Athens in the double-elimination tournament. Martinez-Evans is the only unbeaten team remaining after an 8-7 win over Madison County Sunday afternoon. The tournament continues through Tuesday night with an “if needed” final game set for Thursday night.


The Georgia Little League 10-12-year-old state and Georgia Junior Little League state tournaments begin Saturday, July 22 in Peachtree City and Athens, respectively.


Cartersville Little League will represent District 1 in the 10-12-year-old state tournament. Bartow County Little League will be the Junior League District 1 representative at the state tournament.
