Volleyball: Lady Canes sweep to wins, other local teams fall

Cartersville volleyball improved to 11-2 on the season with a pair of wins Thursday evening at North Paulding High School.

The Lady Canes cruised past Woodland in straight sets, but needed three sets to defeat the host Wolfpack.

"We played really well against Woodland," said Cartersville coach Dustin Cothran. "We came out fast and got the result we were looking for."

Against North Paulding, Cartersville again took the opening set but was forced into a third set by giving up a big lead in the middle set.

"We squandered a big lead and lost that second set," said Cothran. "We have too much talent to do some of the things we are doing. We rode a huge service run by Catie Heilman in the third set to get that win and Grace Hunter played well tonight, but we wasted some opportunities also."

Woodland, Cass and Adairsville were all swept in their Thursday matches.
