Lady Canes split non-region games at invitational


Cartersville softball split a pair of games Saturday at the North Cobb Invitational in Cobb County. The Lady Canes defeated Campbell 12-4, but was shutout by Ridgeland 8-0.


Cartersville pitcher Colbi Ballard (5 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 3BB, 5K) picked up the victory in the Hurricanes’ opening win.


Paris Poston homered and doubled at the plate driving in a pair of runs. Cio Seigler, Presley Edwards, and Hope Short also had two hits and one RBI each. Neely Ledford finished with one hit and three RBIs. Kalli Scheff and Allie Jackson added one hit each for the Lady Canes.


Campbell’s loss dropped the Lady Spartans to a 5-16 season record.


Hailey Carroll tossed a five inning shutout and struck out three for Ridgeland in Cartersville’s second game of the day. Carroll scattered four hits.


Laine Hicks had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Panthers’ offense.


Poston had two of the Lady Canes’ hits. Jackson and Lauren McElhaney each added one hit.


McElhaney (4.1 IP, 8R, 5ER, 6H, 4BB) was tagged with the pitching loss for Cartersville.


Ridgeland improved to 18-4 on the season.


Cartersville (8-13, 5-7) completes regular season play Monday at home against Woodland.
