Baynard tosses no-hitter in Woodland win; Cass falls to region-leading Carrollton in extra innings


Sarah Baynard tossed a five inning no-hitter as the Woodland Lady Cats blanked East Paulding Tuesday night at home, 8-0.


Baynard issued only one walk, hit one batter, and struck out two in the 18 batters faced. She needed only 61 pitches and 37 were for strikes.


Woodland scored three runs in the first inning, added two more in the second, another run in the third, and two more in the fourth inning.


Caroline HIgdon tripled and drove in two runs for the Lady Cats. Ansley Evans, Brittany Cox, and Skylar Chappell had the other Woodland hits. Jordan Duck drove in one run.


East Paulding slipped to 11-12 overall and 6-8 in Region 7-AAAAA.


Woodland (10-13, 5-8) wraps up regular season play Wednesday at Cass at 5:55 p.m.





CARROLLTON 9, CASS 0 (8 innings)



Cass softball stood toe-to-toe with Region 7-AAAAA leader Carrollton Tuesday night for seven innings, but the Lady Trojans took advantage of three Cass errors and had seven hits in the top of the eighth on their way to a 9-0 win at the Lady Colonels’ home field.


Aslinn Spradlin picked up the pitching win for Carrollton with three shutout innings of relief.


Zahri Dunson (2 RBIs) and Savannah Cook led the Trojans with two hits each.


Cass pitcher Taylor Gibson scattered three hits and struck out three through seven shutout innings. She did not issue a walk in the game and the eighth inning rally by the Trojans resulted in only one earned run.


Carrollton improved to 21-2 overall and 13-1 in region play.


Cass (5-21, 1-13) wraps up the regular season at home Wednesday against Woodland.
