Rec all-star teams compete in pre-district hoops tourneys

Local 8U, 10U, and 12U youth basketball all-star teams are playing in pre-district warm-up tournaments across northwest Georgia this weekend.

 

THURSDAY, FEB. 8

A pair of Bartow County Parks & Recreation girls youth basketball teams won games Thursday night and one boys team picked up a win in their respective pre-district warm-up tournaments.


Bartow 8U girls edged Gordon County 14-13 in their opener at the District Warm-Up Tournament in Calhoun. Samantha Gough led all scorers in the game with six points. Bartow 8U plays Pickens County Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex Gym 1.


Bartow 10U girls defeated Pickens County 41-7 behind 12 points from Kaitlin Arnold and nine by Olivia Woods. Bartow 10U plays Gordon County Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex Gym 2.


Bartow 12U girls lost Thursday night to Gordon County, 30-10. Piper Spivey led Bartow with 6 points. Bartow 12U girls play next on Saturday afternoon at 12:45 against Gilmer County at Calhoun Middle School.


Bartow 8U boys lost to Calhoun Thursday night 20-15. Isaiah Moreno scored three points for Bartow, followed by Christen McClendon, Jake Orton, Kaiden Kent, Lance Tippet, KJ Smith, and Eli Simmons with two each.


Bartow 10U boys defeated Calhoun 22-15 Thurday behind nine points from Jakai Baldwin and four each from Jamarcus Bryant, Kyron McClendon, and Tavaris Burleson.


Bartow 12U boys fell to Calhoun on Thursday, 31-22.



FRIDAY, FEB. 9


In Friday’s action at the pre-district warm-up tournaments, the Bartow 8U, 10U, and 12U girls teams all picked up wins.


NaXyria Roberts scored 10 points, Emma Hensley seven, and Layne Callan six as the Bartow 12U girls topped Gordon County 31-15.


The Bartow 10U girls defeated Gordon County 19-5. Olivia Woods led Bartow with five points. KK Arnold, Addie Pearson, and Summerlyn Smith posted four points each.


Samantha Gough scored 12 points while Rakiah Pace and Peyton Dotson added four points apiece in the Bartow 8U girls’ 22-4 win over Pickens County Friday night.


In Friday night’s boys action, the Bartow 12U, 10U, and 8U boys all added wins.


Nick Kennedy and Jamariian Pullum scored nine points. Jeremiah Glenn contributed eight points as the Bartow 12U boys beat Gordon County 31-21.


The Bartow 10U boys defeated Gordon County Friday night 34-28. Jakai Baldwin led Bartow with 10 points, followed by Jakez Baldwin and Tyrek Hames with nine and eight points, respectively.


The 8U Bartow Blue boys cruised past Pickens County Friday night, 25-3. Kaiden Kent led Bartow with six points. KJ Smith scored five points. Dustin McConnell and Liam Lujan added four points each.



Saturday’s schedule (2/10):


In Whitfield County, the Bartow 8U boys and 10U boys continue action. The 8U team plays Murray County and Dalton. The 10U bracketed tournament continues.


In Calhoun at the 8U girls tournament, Bartow plays Calhoun at 11:30 a.m. The 8U boys face Gilmer County at 9 a.m. Both 8U teams will play again in the afternoon with the top-two seeds playing for the tournament championship.


In 10U action in Calhoun Saturday morning, Bartow 10U boys play Summerville in their final round-robin game. The seeded playoff games are at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Bartow 10U girls play Calhoun Saturday morning with playoff games at 3:15 p.m.


In the 12U event in Calhoun Saturday, the 12U Cartersville boys play the 12U Bartow boys at 10:15 a.m. with playoff games later in the afternoon.


Bartow’s 12U girls play Gilmer County Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in both teams’ final round-robin game. The 12U girls playoff games are set for 5:45 p.m.


In Murray County, the Cartersville 10U boys begin a pre-district tune-up tournament with a game against Trion on Saturday. The eight-team tournament continues through next Thursday.
