Canes' bats best Lambert

After playing in a pair of pitching duels earlier in the week, the Cartersville and visiting Lambert offense took stage on a drizzly Friday night at Richard Bell Field as the Canes battled to a 9-8 victory.

Lambert took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and led 8-4 going to the bottom of the fifth inning, but a five-run bottom of the fifth turned the tables for the Hurricanes.

Jordan Wilkie had a two RBI double and finished the night with three RBI to spark the Canes’ offense. Anthony Seigler finished with a pair of hits and popped a leadoff solo home run in the decisive Cartersville bottom of the fifth.

J.P. Martin and Ian Inaba had one hit and one RBI each for Cartersville. Josh Davis and Devin Warner added a base hit each and Mason Barnett finished with two RBI.

The Canes used four pitchers with Levi Ayers picking up the win by completing the final two and one-third innings. Ayers walked one and struck out two. Curtis Wilkes (0.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 3BB, 1K), Jake Norris (1.1 IP, 5R, 2ER, 2H, 2BB, 2K), and Gage Morris (3 IP, 1R, 0ER, 4H, 0BB, 4K) also worked from the mound.

Lambert (1-1) got two hits each from Ben Asher and Jonathan Hemmings. Hemmings and Garrett Hollenbeck each finished with two RBI for the Longhorns.

Cartersville (2-1) plays at Blessed Trinity Tuesday, at Spraybery Wednesday, and will face Rome and Sequoyah Sat. Feb. 24 at Richard Bell Field.
