Chargers take five of six on busy week

Georgia Highlands College baseball won five of six games this week to improve to 12-5 on the year.


The Chargers started the week by taking the rubber game of a series with Lincoln Trail (IL) CC 5-2 at LakePoint. That was followed with mid-week wins over Shorter University JV (10-6) and Emmanuel College JV (13-3) on Thursday. Georgia Highlands then took two of three against Sinclair (OH) CC to complete the impressive stretch. The visiting Tartan Pride took the series opener 9-6 on Saturday before the Chargers took the next two games 7-3 and 12-4 Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.


Matt Norton, Connor Dove, Jake Meyer, Matt Norton, and Drew Wilson each picked up pitching wins during the week.


Chargers’ top offensive totals for the week:

Willis Kemp — 8-for-16, six RBI, one double, three walks

Parker Orr — 8 for 20, five RBI, four doubles, one walk

Bryson Horne — 8-for-24, five RBI, five doubles Blake Brady — 8-for-26, six RBI, five doubles, one triple, one walk

Nick Piccapietra — 7-for-18, five RBI, three doubles, one walk

Skylar McPhee — 7-for-19, three RBI, three walks

Cameron Hearn — 7-for-210, five RBI, one HR, two doubles, three walks

Zach Miller — 6-for-21, two RBI, three doubles, one triple, three walks


As a team, the Chargers carry a .309 batting average and have scored 91 runs in 16 games for 5.8 per game. The pitching staff has an ERA of 2.72 with opponents batting .265.


GHC (12-5) travels to LaGrange College Wednesday, hosts Macomb (MI) CC Friday night and Sunday afternoon at LakePoint, and travels to East Georgia College Saturday to open GCAA play.
