GHC pounds visiting Monarchs

After dropping their conference opener Saturday at East Georgia CC, the Georgia Highlands College baseball team bounced back Sunday with a vengeance against non-conference foe Macomb (MI) CC, 24-7.

The win completed a two-game sweep of the Monarchs by the Chargers and catapults GHC into a stretch of 19 straight conference games that extends into early April.

The Chargers put 23 of their 24 runs on the scoreboard in the first four frames as they cruised to an easy win.

A collection of five GHC pitchers limited the visiting Monarchs to only four although they did issue a dozen walks and hit a batter. Zach Fordham, Brady Barker, Cody Johnson, Jake Meyer, and Noah Bryant all toed the rubber for the Chargers.

Georgia Highlands totaled sixteen hits and took advantage of 13 walks in the contest.

Brandon Allen drove in four runs with two hits, including a double and a walk. Bryson Horne had three hits and two RBI. Blake Brady finished with two hits and three walks including a double and two RBI. Spencer Lewis added three RBI with a hit. Miguel Urbina also had three RBI.

The Chargers (14-6, 0-1) open a four-game conference series with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Wednesday at LakePoint and will play the final three games of the series in Tifton on Friday and Saturday.
