Feanny hat trick, late first half surge lifts Lady Cats to region win

The Woodland girls soccer team scored three times in the final ten minutes of the first half to break open a 1-1 tie and cruised in the second half to a 6-1 win Tuesday over visiting Kell.


Molly Plott opened the Lady Cats’ scoring in the 17th minute of the first half but the Lady Longhorns knotted the game at 1-1 midway through the half.


In the final ten minutes of the first half, Woodland took a 4-1 advantage on a pair of goals by Tiera Feanny and another by Anna McCrary.


Kaitlin Winnenberg continued the Lady Cats’ scoring in the second half with a goal in the half’s opening minute and Feanny completed her hat trick midway through the half for a 6-1 final.


Kell falls to 1-6-1 with the loss.


Woodland (5-4-1, 2-1 in Region 7-AAAAA) plays at Rome next Tuesday.
