Woodland drops final non-region game


Woodland dropped a 7-4 decision Tuesday night to visiting Pickens in the Wildcats’ final non-region game.


The Dragons led 2-1 after two innings and held a 3-2 advantage going into the fourth inning where Pickens scored three more times to take a 6-2 lead. Pickens added an insurance run in the sixth inning and Woodland responded with two, but it was not enough.


Eight of nine starters had at least one hit for the Dragons who were led by Jace Franklin’s three-hit performance. Joseph Gossett added two hits, including a homer.


Caswell Smith (5 IP, 4R, 2ER, 7H, 4BB, 3K) picked up the pitching win for Pickens as the Dragons improved to 8-4.


Koby Stansel (6 IP, 7ER, 12H, 1BB, 5K) suffered the pitching loss for the Wildcats.


Jordan Lee (double), Toby Queen, and Stansel (RBI) had two hits each for Woodland. Dylan Webb added a double with one RBI.


Woodland (7-7) hosts Cass Friday in the Wildcats Region 7-AAAAA opener at 5:55 p.m.
