Hurricanes breeze past Sandy Creek

Three Cartersville pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout and the offense exploded for double-digit runs Thursday in Tyrone as the Hurricanes blanked Sandy Creek in five innings, 16-0.


Jake Gooch hit a second inning grand slam and Anthony Seigler hit a leadoff solo home run to start the third inning as the Canes’ bats exhibited some power.


Four other Hurricanes had extra base hits. Josh Davis contributed two hits including a double and three RBI. Mason Barnett had a double and one RBI in his two hits. Jordan Wilkie finished with two hits including a double and two RBI and Brant Smith doubled home one run.


Chadler Tromza, Garrett Shelton, Preston Welchel, and Kolby Adams (RBI) had the other Cartersville base hits. Ian Inaba added one RBI with a sacrifice fly.


Barnett (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 5K) picked up the pitching victory in an abbreviated outing. Adams (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) and Luke Schiltz (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB) worked an inning each.


The loss dropped Sandy Creek to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in region action.


Cartersville (11-5, 1-0) hosts Region 5-AAAA foe Chapel Hill Friday at 5:55 p.m.
