Woodland cruises past Cass


The Woodland bats rapped out 14 hits and the Wildcats struck for 15 runs Friday night in a five-inning, 15-2 Region 7-AAAAA win over county-rival Cass at the Ballpark at Woodland.


Woodland pitcher Kenny Jinks limited Cass to only two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks. He fanned nine.


Garrett Cornett was 4-for-4 for the Wildcats at the plate with one RBI. Toby Queen followed with three hits and one RBI. Koby Stansel had two hits, while Dylan Webb (2 RBI), Bryce Evans (2 RBI), Chris Mills (triple, 4 RBI), Ben Ammons, and Jordan Lee contributed one hit each. Marco Haro added one RBI for Woodland.


Cass starting pitcher, Steven Spell (2.2 IP, 15R, 12ER, 14H, 1BB, 5K), was roughed up in the loss. Logan Nelson (1.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 2BB, 1K) retired the final four outs on the mound for the Colonels.


Gavin Young had two hits and one RBI for Cass. Matt Shook added a hit and one RBI. Evan Hinton had the other Colonels’ base hit.


Woodland (8-7, 1-0) and Cass (7-8, 1-2) will play the second game of their two-game series Monday at Cass at 5:55 p.m.
