Chargers rebound to even series with extra inning victory

Georgia Highlands scored the final seven runs of the game and walked off with a tenth inning run and a 13-12 win to even their series with West Georgia Tech Friday night at LakePoint.


West Georgia Tech won the opener of the series Tuesday in Carrollton 16-6. The final two games of the four-game series are set for a doubleheader Saturday at LakePoint.


In the high-scoring affair, the Chargers trailed 6-2 through three innings, but narrowed the margin to 8-6 after five frames. West Georgia Tech pushed their lead to 12-6 in the sixth inning before Georgia Highlands rallied to send the game to extra innings with four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth inning.


Skylar McPhee lined a single into center field to start the Chargers’ tenth inning and Austin Foster reached on a bunt single to set up Bryson Horne’s RBI double for the walk-off victory.


The come-from-behind win was made possible by an impressive relief pitching performance by Sam Warren (4 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 5K). Warren shut down the visiting Golden Knights from the seventh inning forward to keep the Chargers in contention.


Georgia Highlands out hit West Georgia Tech 19 to 11.


Zach Miller had two hits including a homer with three RBI and a pair of walks to set the pace for the Chargers. Skylar McPhee finished with four hits including a double and one RBI. Nick Piccapietra had a double and one RBI amidst his three hits. Bryson Horne also had three hits including a double and two RBI.


Willis Kemp contributed two hits and two RBI. Cameron Hearn had two hits and one RBI. Austin Foster added two hits with one RBI and Parker Orr blasted a solo home run.


The Chargers (18-8, 4-3 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) and West Georgia Tech (10-17, 1-6) wrap up their four-game conference series Saturday with a doubleheader at LakePoint starting at 1 p.m.
