Holdbrooks, Chargers take down Highlanders

Alex Holdbrooks tossed eight strong innings and the Chargers’ offense produced double-digit runs as Georgia Highlands College defeated the visiting Gordon State Highlanders Tuesday night at LakePoint, 10-3.


Holdbooks scattered four hits and two walks and was responsible for only one earned run. He fanned eight in earning the pitching victory.


The Chargers scored seven runs in the first four innings to take a commanding 7-0 lead. After Gordon State made the score 7-1 in the fifth, GHC added three more runs in th eighth for a 10-1 advantage. The visiting Highlanders scored twice in the ninth but Chargers’ pitcher Jeremiah Woods (1 IP, 2ER, 3H, 2K) retired the final three outs to complete the 10-3 win.


Zach MIller hit a first inning solo homerun and added a double for his two hits. Parker Orr blasted a two-run homer in the third inning that gave the Chargers a 5-0 lead.


Willis Kemp had three hits and one RBI. Bryson Horne drove in two runs with a pair of hits that included a double. Nick Piccapietra contributed two hits including a double and one RBI. Austin Foster (RBI) and Skylar McPhee had one hit each.


Seven Gordon State batters had one hit each. Former Adairsville standout Sam Seaman had one of those hits in a ninth inning pinch hit role.


GHC (21-8, 7-3) and Gordon State (17-13, 3-3) continue their four-game conference series Thursday and Saturday in Barnesville. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday.
