Buford controlled the ball and the action most of the evening Tuesday as the Lady Wolves eliminated the Cass girls soccer team 3-0 in the opening round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

Cass senior keeper Brianna Bullock was brilliant in net for the Lady Colonels or the final results might have been more one-sided.

Buford scored goals in the third minute and the 12th minute to grab an early 2-0 advantage and took that lead to the intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Wolves continued to control the ball and limited Cass offensive chances. Striker Logan Vermaas had one of the Lady Colonels’ few opportunities in the 47th minute but the Buford keeper made the stop.

Buford added a late goal off a deflection in the 72nd minute for a 3-0 final score.

The Lady Wolves (9-8-1) advance to the Round of 16 next week against the survivor of a match between Southwest Dekalb and Decatur.

Cass has its season conclude with an 11-8 record.
