Fields places 9th at NCAA D3 Championships

Kingston native and Darlington grad Spencer Fields put forth an excellent showing in his debut at the NCAA Division III Championships last week.

The long-distance specialist had qualified in the 10k with the 14th best time of any D-III runner during the season. He outperformed that with a ninth-placed showing in the event Thursday morning at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships Thursday at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The junior crossed the finish line in 31 minutes, 10.21 seconds — almost exactly four seconds behind the eight-placed finisher.

After the race was bumped up three hours in hopes of avoiding the heat, Fields finished in a little over 31 minutes in a pretty tight pack among the sixth- through 10th-placed finishers.

Just a junior, Fields, no doubt, will look to build on the experience in hopes of returning to the NCAA championships next spring.
