Athletes Beyond Bartow: Howard, Justus, and Seigler continue their MiLB journeys


Former Cartersville High School baseball players continue their journeys in professional baseball as the summer heats up.


Anthony Seigler is off to a nice start with his Rookie League Yankees team, pitcher Sam Howard made another start with Albuquerque, and middle infielder Connor Justus returned to the California League.

 

SAM HOWARD — Albuquerque Isotopes (5th yr. pro; LHP; Triple-A Pacific Coast League; Colorado Rockies organization; Georgia Southern; Cartersville HS)… went four and two-thirds innings in a no-decision start Friday as the Isotopes went on to win at Fresno 7-5. Howard allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk. He fanned three. He left the game in fifth inning with his team leading 6-4. Howard has a 3-4 record in 11 starts this season for Albuquerque. He has 39 strikeouts in 51 innings and a 5.47 ERA.



CONNOR JUSTUS — Inland Empire 66ers (3rd yr. pro; MIF; Adv. Class A California League; L.A. Angels organization; Georgia Tech; Cartersville HS)… after completing the first half of the 2018 season with the Double-A Mobile BayBears of the Southern League, Justus was sent back to the Advanced Class A Inland Empire 66ers of the California League on June 22. In 57 games at AA, he hit .186 with 13 RBI and had an on-base percentage of .313. In his first three games with Inland Empire, Justus has gone 2-for-9 with a pair of walks, three runs, and a stolen base in games at the Lancaster JetHawks. The 66ers are 2-2 in the South Division second half standings and have a four-game home series against Visalia starting Monday followed by a five-game set at Rancho Cucamonga that starts Friday night.



ANTHONY SEIGLER — GCL Yankees West (1st yr. pro; C; Rookie Gulf Coast League; NY Yankees organization; Cartersville HS)… in his first two professional starts, Seigler is 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI, two runs scored and a pair of walks. The switch-hitting catcher batted fifth in the order against Phillies East in his June 18 debut and was slotted second in the batting order last Friday in a start against the GCL Braves. GCL Yankees West (2-2) are currently in third place in the five-team Northwest Division.
