Bartow County Little League 12U eliminated at District 1 tourney

Bartow County Little League 12U baseball made a late charge Tuesday night, but was eliminated from the Georgia Little League District 1 tournament by Rockmart Little League, 5-4 at Hamilton Crossing Park.

Down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Bartow County scored twice to narrow the margin to 5-2. The locals then scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and had the potential tying run on third base, but came up just short.

Rockmart scored all five runs and had seven of their ten total hits in the top of the third inning.

Bartow’s Caden Wade had two hits including a triple and two RBI. Dawson Craig contributed a double. Landon O'Neal and David Jinks had the other hits.

Craig (3 IP, 5ER, 8H, 2BB, 5K) started on the mound and suffered the pitching loss for Bartow County. David Kelley (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 3K) also pitched.

Rockmart, now 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament, plays Cartersville Little League in the championship round starting Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton Crossing Park. Cartersville (2-0) needs one win to capture the district title. Rockmart needs a victory Wednesday to force a second championship round game on Thursday.
