Cartersville Little League 11U, Cartersville Rec 12U fall at state tourneys


It was a tough night for the Cartersville Little League 11U all-stars Tuesday as they lost for the first time at the Georgia Little League 11U State Tournament begin played at Rudy York Field in Atco.


Cartersville 11U matched Northern-Columbus in hits at thirteen, but ten walks and eight errors contributed to a 20-9 loss for the locals.


Both teams scored six runs in the first two innings, but Northern pulled away in the middle innings by outscoring Cartersville 9-1 in the third and fourth frames for a 15-7 advantage.


Northern-Columbus got base hits from twelve different players in the game and sealed the contest with five additional runs in the top of the sixth inning to cap their 11-run victory.


Casen Cochran led the Cartersville offense with a four-hit game that included a double and two RBI. Brodie McWhorter followed with three hits including a double and three RBI.


Logan Shrewsbury added two hits for Cartersville. Thomas Peters and Cam Williams both had one hit and one RBI each. Andrew Lutjens doubled. Cameron Cochran added one hit. Julian Cline and Maddox Frazier each drove in a run.


Northern-Columbus (2-0) advances to the championship round and will only need one more win to claim the state title.


Cartersville (2-1) will play the survivor of a late Tuesday game between Warner Robins American and Smyrna Blue in an elimination game Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face Northern-Columbus in the championship round, but will need to beat them twice to win the tournament.

The Georgia champion advances to the Tournament of State Champions that begins July 27 in Greenville, NC.




CARTERSVILLE 12U FALLS IN GRPA STATE TOURNEY OPENER


The Cartersville 12U Recreation Department all-stars lost their first game at the double-elimination Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state tournament Tuesday night at the E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton.


Cartersville was shutout by East Point, 12-0.


East Point broke on top in the top of the first inning with four runs, then added three in the third and five more in the fourth inning.


East Point managed only five hits off four different Cartersville pitchers, but took advantage of eleven walks, and four errors.


Collin Genrich doubled in the second inning and reached third base in the frame, but that was the only real Cartersville threat. Adam Cornwell also had a base hit for the locals.


With their win, East Point moves to the second round Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. against Grady County. Grady blanked the Clayton County Braves Tuesday, 21-0.


Cartersville slips to the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will play the Clayton County Braves Wednesday at 2 p.m. The winner will play again at 4 p.m. against the loser of a Wednesday game between Savannah M&M and the Clayton County Pirates.


The seven-team tournament continues through Friday afternoon with all games at the E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton.

 

Results for Bartow County Little League and Cartersville Little League provided by the respective leagues and Georgia Little League Baseball and Softball. Bartow County Recreation Department and Cartersville Recreation Department baseball and softball teams participating in Georgia Recreation and Parks Association are reported to Bartow Sports Zone by the respective recreation departments and presented on Bartow Sports Zone by Play It Again Sports at 410 Cherokee Place in Cartersville.
