Lady Canes drop match with Sequoyah

Cartersville volleyball dropped a straight sets decision to visiting Sequoyah Monday night at the Storm Center.

The Lady Chiefs won 25-15, 25-19, and 25-23 and improved to 5-3 on the season.

“We lacked some energy tonight,” said Lady Canes’ coach Dustin Cothran after the match. “We eventually picked up the pace a little bit, but just never sustained a run long enough to get ahead.”

Nedu Evans finished the three set match with 24 kills and 18 digs. Grace Hunter compiled 48 assists with 10 digs. Anna Mathis contributed 18 digs and three aces, while Anna Grace Brock added 16 digs.

“We knew we had a tough schedule early and it would be easy to be frustrated right now,” Cothran stated. “The girls are working hard, however, and they’ll continue to do so. Plain and simple, our ball control and defense needs to improve. We’ll continue addressing those issues.”

Cartersville (2-7) plays Tuesday at River Ridge against the Knights and Cambridge.
