Woodland girls win Big Peach Stampede; Canes second, Lady Canes third in W2W Invite


The Woodland girls cross country team, ranked second in Class AAAAA and fourth in all classifications in Georgia, dominated the 3rd annual Big Peach Mustang Stampede Saturday hosted by Hillgrove High School at Allatoona Creek Park.


The Lady Cats took six of the top eleven spots in the race with McKenna Trapheagen (18:53) and Carli Clymer (19:19) taking the top two positions in the race.


They were followed by teammates Rylee Evans (4th, 19:38), Angela Cochran (7th, 19:59), Baylee Evans (10th, 20:26), and Cheyenne Spinks (11th, 20:41).


Woodland finished 29 points ahead of second place Etowah with Roswell, North Paulding, and Kennesaw Mountain rounding out the top five.

The girls invitational included 19 schools and 125 runners.


The Woodland boys placed eleventh of 21 boys teams. Newnan won the boys championship that included 144 runners. Marietta placed second and Roswell was third.


John Shropshire led Woodland with a 32nd place finish in 18:06. He was followed by teammates Dylan Stermer (37th, 18:15), John Forsyth (75th, 19:06), Reece Mitchell (80th, 19:20), and Patrick Bollwerk (86th, 19:32), Kobe Cochran (96th, 19:55), and Ian Van Order (106th, 20:34).


Woodland will run in the Wingfoot Classic Saturday at Sam Smith Park.


CANES SECOND, LADY CANES THIRD IN INAUGURAL W2W INVITE

The Cartersville boys, ranked eighth in Class AAAA, finished second to Class 7A West Forsyth in the Wire2Wire Running Invitational Saturday at Dellinger Park. The Cass boys were fifth in the five team event that also included Rockmart and Sprayberry.


The Cartersville girls placed third of four girls teams. West Forsyth won the race by taking the top seven individual spots. Rockmart placed second and Sprayberry was fourth.


The Hurricanes had seven runners to finish between fifth and fourteenth place. West Forsyth had seven runners in the top nine, including individual winner Jeremy Ericson (16:52).


Bill Archer ran fifth overall to lead Cartersville in 17:19. He was followed by Alex Rios (8th, 17:46), Jacob Busek (10th, 18:45), Levi Booth (11th, 18:48), Colin McCann (12th, 18:49), Harrison Banks (13th, 18:49), and Banks Wilson (14th, 18:57).


The Cass boys were led by Prem Patel (15th, 19:09), Bryce Kresho (17th, 20:11), Logan Van Stinj (31st, 22:06), Craigory Chatman (33rd, 22:41), and Brendon Waters (35th, 34:09).


Vanna Beach led the Lady Canes with an 11th place finish in 23:22. She was followed by teammates Alice Terry (14th, 23:52), Trista Kelly (15th, 23:56), Jaxiry Bentoncourt (17th, 24:08), Trinity Atkins (22nd, 24:53), and Metzli Munoz (23rd, 24:54).


Cass had a pair of individual runners in the girls race. Olivia Flynn finished 13th in 23:38. Stassija Banks was 31st.


Cartersville competes next at the Wingfoot XC Classic Saturday at Sam Smith Park.
